Contributing Back to Gnome?

I was reading about the Ubuntu Control Center-UCC fever from a lot of blogs and twitter from people linked to the Ubuntu Community.

The author did a very good job. He made  glowing lights come out from people’s eyes staring at the application layout looking very Ubuntuish.

Oh, its beautiful, We need something like that on Ubuntu!!!!

Gnome has an application that does the same work as the shine new Ubuntu Control Center –based on Mandriva’s Control Center– does, take a look at the gnome-control-center.

Personally, I think that the right path is something like “Oh, good, can we work together with Gnome and improve gnome-control-center?”

That would make more sense to me than that wooows I’ve read last days.

Ubuntu Release Party 10.04 – Alagoas

On May 14  in Maceió and the 15th of the same month in Arapiraca we will be promoting event to launch the Ubuntu LTS 10.04.
This version is a Long Term Support, which means that we have three years of upgrades for desktops and five years for servers.

In Maceió, the event will be held in the auditorium of SENAI starting at 18:00 hours.
In Arapiraca in the event will be in the auditorium of FACOM starting at 13:00 hours.

During the event we will present the new version and features.
We will also have lectures on Concepts of Free Software, User Support, the Ubuntu Community, businness opportunities, etc..

Lançamento Ubuntu 10.04 – Alagoas

No dia 14 de maio aqui em Maceió e no dia 15 do mesmo mês em Arapiraca realizaremos o evento de lançamento do Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Esta é uma versão Long Term Suport, o que significa que teremos com ela 3 anos de atualizações para desktops e 5 anos para servidores.

Em Maceió o evento vai ser realizado no auditório do SENAI no poço a partir das 18 horas.

Em Arapiraca o evento será no auditório da FACOMAR a partir das 13 horas.

Durante o evento apresentaremos a nova versão com suas funcionalidades e novidades. Também teremos palestras sobre conceitos de Software Livre, suporte a usuários, comunidade Ubuntu, oportunidades e mercado de trabalho, etc.

O evento é gratuito mas é preciso fazer a inscrição para poder participar. O número de participantes é limitado, então não perca tempo.

No final do evento serão sorteados brindes entre os participantes.

Fim do suporte ao Ubuntu 8.10

O Ubuntu liberou a versão 8.10 a quase 18 meses atras, em 30 de outubro
de 2008. Tal como acontece com as versões anteriores, o Ubuntu manteve
atualizações de segurança e correções críticas para um período de 18 meses. O período de suporte está
chegando ao fim e o Ubuntu 8.10 vai chegar ao fim da vida na sexta-feira 30 de abril de 2010. Nessa data, o “Ubuntu Security Notices”
não incluem mais informações ou pacotes de atualização para o Ubuntu 8.10.

O caminho para atualização com suporte do Ubuntu 8.10 é através do Ubuntu 9.04.

Conky on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Beta 1

Well, as asked  in my last post, here comes the steps used to get that conky layout.

1. Download the Another conky config 0.02 (newer than mine).
2. Extract the file 121331-conkypatch.tar.gz.
3. Edit the conky.conf file,
   1. change own_window_type override to own_window_type root (For some reason override will not draw on desktop in lucid).
   2. change ${image ~/.conkypatch/icons/logo.png -p 18,0 -s 45×45} to ${image /usr/share/icons/gnome/32×32/places/start-here.png -p 11,7}
   3. Add the following line to the end:

   ${font Martin Vogel’s Symbols:size=14}B${font}${voffset -1}Mail: ${alignr}${font DejaVu Sans:pixelsize=10:style=Bold}${execi 10 python ~/.conkyScripts/gmail_1.py n} ${color2}mail(s)

4. Save the file as .conkyrc in your home folder.
5. Download the wallpaper used here.
6. Download the gmail script here and save it to the ~/.conkyScripts folder (Don’t forget to set your username and password in the script).
7. You can download and install these fonts too.
